Welcome!
WSDA President's Message:
Dear Colleagues,
This year will be an exciting one, with many opportunities for you to participate in advocacy for the RD. My priorities for the year mirror the ADA Priorities:
- Health Care Reform
- Child Nutrition
- Health Disparities and Cultural Competency
- Advocacy
Many thanks to Annie Frederick, and the 2008-2009 Board for all the great work accomplished last year! We will continue to focus on building relationships with both state and federal legislators. Kelly Horton, Robin Payment and several others did an amazing job of visiting state and federal legislators, increasing their knowledge of the RD and DTR. In the May Policy Brief, ADA Government Affairs office acknowledged the work of Washington dietitians in spreading ADA's policy messages in the state. Let’s continue to highlight the work of dietitians in the state and support ADA.
Mark your calendars for two special days in March 2010:
- RD Day, March 11. Robin Payment and her committee are spearheading this event, where members will meet in Olympia and promote the RD to legislators.
- Virtual Online Public Policy Workshop March 21. We will sponsor local events to bring RD’s together for the online workshops.
This year I have added a Licensure Task Force to the Board. The Task Force will look at the questions raised from the recently conducted licensure survey. They will make recommendations on how the organization should proceed on the licensure question. Committee members include Janet Beary, President-elect, Annie Frederick and Holly Trujillo, both past WSDA presidents, Vickery Barton and Charlotte Myers, Clinical Managers. This core committee will solicit additional comments and participation from others.
Join us as we move forward together this year!
