Videotape Library
We have a lending system for videotapes that PNPG has made of recent nutrition teleconferences. Members can view these tapes for free. Continuting education credit can be reeived by visiting the ADA website. Cost for non-PNPG members is $10, to cover the cost of duplicating handouts and mailing.

To request one of the following videos, contact the current PNPG Chairperson. Your name will be placed on a waiting list for that videotape. When it is your turn, the tapes will be mailed to you by ther person who preceds you on the waiting list. You have approximately one month to view the tape and forward it to the next person. The Chairperson will let you know who the next person on the list is for you to mail the video on to.

Upcoming Continuing Education Events

Intensive Course: Nutrition for Infants, Children and Adolescents

February 22 - 25, 2009, Birmingham, Alabama; Sponsored by Depts. of Pediatrics & Nutrition Sciences, University of Alabama at Birmingham

The purpose of this course is to improve the nutritional status of infants, children and adolescents by updating health professionals in infant, child, and adolescent nutrition. This program is designed for pediatric practitioners including dietitians, nurses, nutritionists, pediatric nurse practitioners, physicians, and other professionals who are involved in the care of children.

An Advanced Behavioral Counseling Institute will also be offered. It is geared for practitioners working in a clinical setting who would like to increase their skills in counseling patients and their families. The emphasis of the institute will be in treating childhood obesity, but will be applicable to all counseling settings. Space will be limited to 20 individuals.

Assuring Pediatric Nutrition in the Community

June 24-26, 2009
Seattle, WA

This training is for RDs who see pediatric patients in their practices but who have not have recent training in pediatric nutrition. The 3-day course is based on a core curriculum, then tailored to meet the specific needs of participants. Presentors include nutritionists and health care professionals who are experienced in pediatrics. Participants will also be included in the on-going Pediatric Nutrition Consultation On-Line listserve after completing the course.

CDC Updates Pediatric Growth Charts Web Site

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has recently revised the Pediatric Growth Chart Web site to include growth charts in Spanish and French, Frequently Asked Questions, a new entry page for the interactive web-based training modules, a revised PowerPoint presentation, and a link to WIC-specific growth charts (for ages 2 to 5 years). All growth charts and related material can be accessed at http://www.cdc.gov/growthcharts.

The interactive web-based training modules are aimed at pediatric health care professionals, including nutritionists, dietitians, nurses, and pediatricians to provide expertise in using and interpreting the 2000 growth charts. Module topics include an Overview of the CDC Growth Charts, Using the BMI-for-age Growth Charts, and Overweight Children and Adolescents: Recommendations to Screen, Assess and Manage. Other growth chart-related modules developed by the Health Resources Services Administration's Maternal and Child Health Bureau can also be accessed at the site.
